Helmlsey Town Council were appointed the Trustee of the amalgamated Feversham Memorial Committee and the John Atkinson Memorial Playing Fields Charities when the Charity Commissioners agreed to them combining to form the Helmsley Recreations Ground Registered Charity No. 523358 in December 2006.

The Town Council act as a 'corporate body' in their administration of the Charity. That is to say that Town Councillors acting as the Town Council NOT as individuals operates the Charity. As the Town Council is elected councillors are subject to change during an election. To save the administrive burden of changing individual Trustees when they are no longer elected the Charity Commissioners chose to make the Town Council as 'one body' the Trustee of the newly formed charity.
