Saturday Night 20 August to early

Sunday Morning 21 August

The Big Swim to Save Helmsley Pool

On the night of Sat 20 August and Sun early morning 21 August we are looking for volunteers to help swim the Channel (22miles or more) in Helmsley Pool. If you can swim a minimum of 10 lengths and can get sponsorship (per length: the more the better!) and can stay up late on Saturday 20 August, we'd like to hear from you.

Our plan is to get as many volunteers to swim as many lengths (25 metres) as they are able after securing sponsorship from their friends, family, work colleagues, club members and anybody else they can think of! You will need to be a little flexible on timings when you swim which will be between 7.00 pm on the night of Saturday 20 August and very early in morning on Sunday 21 August.

Whilst you won't be swimming in the dark there will be only modest pool illumination but there will be tea and coffee to purchase along with cakes, a B-B-Q and some music. You will be swimming in lanes with possibly four to a lane with one lane reserved for competitive swimmers who will be swimming a set number or lengths in a certain time slot. We are doing this in conjunction with The Kingfisher Swimming Club form Scarborough with whom we are sharing the pool (2 lanes each).

So, can you join us? How many lengths can you swim (realistically!), can you stay up late, can you make a family night of it? If you can answer (honestly) yes to the above, please send us an email here and we will make contact with you.

This will need some planning so we can't let people just turn up but if you have family and friend who enjoy a night out with a difference please bring them along. Finally, sorry to ask about your age (its on the sponsorship form) but for insurance purposes we need to know.
